The summer of 2016, I read the book "The Obesity Code" by Jason Fung, MD. The lightbulb went on as to why we gain weight and why we cannot lose weight! It is all about why your own body's insulin is the key to controlling your weight. As I read, I kept underlining key points. I could not believe I had never been taught that diet composition plays a large role in weight gain.

Our diet is composed of three different macronutrient groups—fat, protein, and carbohydrates. The "macro" in "macronutrients" refers to the fact that the majority of the food we eat is made up of these three groups. Micronutrients make up a very small part of our daily diet and include vitamins like A, B, C, D, E, and K, and minerals like iron and calcium. I was always intimidated by this information. I didn't know what to do with it. How is all this related to weight loss?

Fast forward to 2024, and I finally realized what was powering my body every day—food! I never looked at food as my power. Our "power" has changed so much since I was a kid, and it's not easy to refuse those foods that taste so good. But there is a way to have a healthy weight and enjoy some of these foods that have changed.

This really got me excited, and I knew I had to share my knowledge with people. I feel I have always been a coach as a nurse and now want to continue to help people. Stay tuned for more information on how to finally take control of what goes into your mouth and how to give your body the "power" it needs!
